The Henley Festival 7 July - 11 July 2010
An exhibition of paintings and drawings of musicians.
Work by leading artists, Damien Hirst, David Hockney and Jake Sutton will be setting up home on the river bank at the annual Henley Festival (7-11 July), one of the UK's biggest and most spectacular arts and music festivals. The black tie festival brings together the finest international musicians, comedians, performers and visual artists over five nights in picturesque Henley on Thames. Festival goers can sip champagne while listening to headline acts Bryn Terfel, Nigel Kennedy, Will Young and Ronan Keating and browsing the Festival's seven galleries and stunning sculpture lawn. On display and available to buy, will be a unique never before seen original spin painting from art world 'enfant terrible' Damien Hirst and a selection of some of his greatest print works. The exhibition will include highlights from his Spot series, Doxylamine, Ellipticine and Flumequine and a number of pieces from the acclaimed Butterflies collection, including All You Need is Love, a magnificent silk screen with a crimson heart encrusted with diamond dust. Hirst's work will be joined by a showcase of David Hockney etchings, including two from his illustrations for the Six Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm and The Old Guitarist, from his Blue Guitar Series, which was inspired by Picasso. One of his most sought after lithographs from his swimming pool series Paper Pools will also be featured. Jake Sutton makes up the trio of prominent British artists on display and will be exhibiting a range of new drawings, oils and watercolours inspired by music, dance and the Venice Carnival. Sutton has been working closely with musicians from The University of Oxford to produce a series of portraits which aim to capture the skill and beauty of making music.
